Fabio Cannavaro tested positive for a banned substance, but the Juventus defender insists that it was legal and above-board. After incomplete paperwork was submitted to the Italian National Olympic Committee, a test was administered to Cannavaro, which came out positive. Cannavaro and the Juventus medical staff have come out with a statement saying that the banned substance from a shot given to prevent anaphylactic shock, a serious and potentially fatal reaction to wasp stings. While this wouldn't normally be a big deal, the fact that the club involved was Juventus, infamous for alleged doping infractions in the 90s, has made the case less straightforward than it would otherwise be.
Cannavaro has since been cleared of any wrongdoing.
